Concert Review: Another Sky Belong On An Apple Commercial

Yes, I realize the title of this article sounds like a gimmick. Yet, Apple Commercials feel like the new, glorified introduction to rising pop acts. Similar to Spotify Unwrapped, there are certain tech-tools and app ploys that actually work to staple into minds the names they should remember. Shaed became massive thanks to Apple’s use of Trampoline, and it was hard not to think of MacBook Air while seeing Another Sky perform at Baby’s All Right.

The group feels like a elegant, neon ray of light. To go along with my Apple analogy, the feel like that commercial where FKA Twigs is doing some contemporary choreography and pushing walls so that they become warped, fields of color. Catrin Vincent’s voice could definitely push walls until they become neon rays of light. She is the perfect singer for an electro-pop landscape because this genre is both ambient and anamorphic. When people think of Pop, they think of cookie-cutter lyrics and “happy rhythms” but now the genre has had an overhaul with the likes of Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish.
Another Sky – Capable of Love

Nowadays, singers have no problem pushing boundaries and pushing out their feelings. For this, Vincent feels reliable yet elegant; as if saying your fears could win you a diamond crown and the title of Queen. As she moved across the stage like Aubrey Hepburn looking for the Moon River, the rest of the band backed her with an equally fun grace. It was a LATE show, and yet their energy and appearance was like a bunch of futuristic merchants of cool. Dressed in casual-formal and ready to sell people SOMA tablets, of which I was in. This fascinating dynamic felt so indie and different that, in a way, it became commercial.
Another Sky – The Cracks

There are so many lessons in 2019 that I learned, as a person, fan, and an observer of the industry. If 2020 is anything like 2019’s music scene, then the weirder and more atmospheric your sound, THE BETTER. Another Sky reached Heaven with a show and sound that felt visionary yet subtle; as if to enter a concert venue could open a portal to a new dimension…….or start an Apple Commercial.
