Concert Review: Porter Ray Releases His Inner Pac At Warsaw NYC
Porter Ray played the Warsaw NYC stage like it was his coronation. He had the smooth flows of Drake, the thoughtfulness of Kendrick, and the tenacity of PAC when he caught a passionate verse. In essence, Ray has grabbed and gravitated the best of the best in Hip Hop, and turned into a formula that is a guarantee win for his career.
When you think of Drake, you think of flows and rhythms that were destined for every second you just wanted to light up and chill with your girl. Porter Ray has recognized the magic of a lax flow by spewing his verses like he was casually tossing winning lotto tickets. He plays their grandiosity for their sensuality, which played up the fluid passion of his newest album Watercolor. With just him on stage, spiting rhymes over psychedelic images casting over him, music was like a lady who captured his eye and transformed into a cosmic entity who kept on transitioning roles in his life. In “Past Life” or “Russian Roulette”, she was a violent seductress taking away youths left and right, and in “Sacred Geometry” or “Arithmetic” she was a universal goddess that connected Ray’s fate through social and spiritual barriers. For Porter Ray, life is like a linear graph spiking and falling according the competing holds between heartbreak and Heaven. He is so strikingly intuitive as a lyricist and a performer. He smiles and opens his mouth wide as if to bite into his verses like a piranha. Hence, he releases his inner Kendrick and Pac when he fires up the facts and stats on the lives of the poor, POCs, and every human being whose ambition is tethered to institutionalized anxiety. Add on that he is so charming, and you have literal star.
Porter Ray simply seems like the coolest guy in the room. The way he circles around the stage like a shark, and then pauses to punch through a rhythm like a hulk-buster boosted my adrenaline tenfold. He has completely captured the in-between of smooth, down-tempo Hip Hop rhythms and a ferocious presence. There is something enigmatic and dynamic to seeming like a typhoon over a puddle: completely dominating every soft, succulent beat with supernatural fervor. Alright, I am done GUSHING! Yet ,when you find a star on the cusp of being huge, you get excited. I saw Porter before he headlined MSG; yeah, you can be preemptively jealous now! For More Information On Porter Ray Click Here.
