Album Review: somegirlnamedanna turns you “twenty one, twenty two”
Listening to somegirlnamedanna’s EP twenty one, twenty two out July 31,, I felt pulled back to my younger twenties, which was a few years back, but TRUST once you hit twenty five, you can feel geriatric. Something about twenty one, twenty two is perfectly young. You just escaped teenhood, can “legally drink,” but are still considered young enough to make understandably dumb decisions. The good thing about being twenty-one, twenty-two is that your heart has a better bounce back rate, and somegirlnamedanna understands that.
Make mistakes and, definitely, make good trouble. Forgive yourself and rally for the next party! These are the wise words I give you for college post-pandemic. Also don’t mix redbull, vodka, and mango-juice…. Ugh! Yet, when you hear the story of Anna through tracks like, “kitchen table” and “california,” you see she is ambitious. She may want to have good times, but she really wants to have a good life and THAT is something that is SO typical of youth. Sometimes, being young is construed for being careless or uncaring, but I can honestly say I never cared more about who I would be then when I twenty one, twenty two because the world still feels like an ally. Yet, by tracks like, “abandonment,” somegirlnamedanna realizes even friends can turn. Still, youth is resilient.

Sonically and lyrically, the EP is filled with groovy, “driving down the road” bops like, “hello i am” and “monday.” somegirlnamedanna has a delectable voice. She legit sounds like the pop-version of your inner voice. The way her vocals get into your head, make you bobble it around to the rhythms, and until you tell yourself, “seriously just stop” is UNSTOPPABLE. Moreover, it feels like a concise, charming serve of what so many artists want to achieve. somegirlnamedanna has carved her own sincere, danceable space in pop that feels solely hers. In a world, where many feel like they have to go the route of Billie, Anna has figured out you can only be you, and, frankly, I like Anna! For more Information on somegirlnamedanna Click Here.
