Album Review: Baby Rose Send Me “To Myself (Deluxe)”
A DELUXE edition of Baby Rose’s To Myself. Well, that is deluxurious! (Trademarking that term!) Yet, in all seriousness, Baby Rose’s Billie Holiday/ Etta James-esque voice is absolutely intoxicating. You guzzle her voice like wine in hopes to get drunk with its beauty. Add on that her songs sing to the battle we have in finding peace with loneliness, and she seems like the songbird of 2020. Relationships are not easy, especially if the world feels like it is getting worse. Baby Rose’s love songs have seemingly adapted to that dark truth with lightness. She makes love and heartbreak feel like two cars racing towards a cliff; each testing the other to see who will stop short of the edge but closest to it. For her, love is dangerously stunning and, like fire, offer you the same warmth that will end up burning you. This perspective makes her voice feel richer in texture. She vocally embodies the smoke from which love either fills you or leaves you breathless.

To Myself Deluxe solidifies that Baby Rose is an old soul, but a welcomed, new one the music industry. With the addition of 3 more tracks, “Marmot,” “Damn,” and “August 5th,” the album feels fuller. It further drives Baby Rose’s ability to match sensuality with wonder; she makes you want to light a cig and think of old loves while also dancing with your new one. Her ability to make you feel dual is fascinating considering her music is quieting in a world that feels too noisy. I guess, in a way, To Myself (Deluxe) fulfills its purpose to make you keep to yourself to find your inner sexy and sage. Baby Rose’s To Myself (Deluxe) comes out September 18.
