Album Review: BENEE Sees A “FIRE ON MARZZ”
I am in love with BENEE’ s sound. Her debut, Fire On Marzz, is simple, pop bangers wrapped like hard candies. Frankly, it is even hard to categorize her as “pop.” Like so many, rising artists, she is spans genres to land on emotions. From “Wishful Thinking” to “Glitter,” BENEE is a fun artist because she sing to more than just love.
It is hard to create music that goes being the typical tropes of “heartbreak” and “euphoric connection.” Sometimes, your biggest issue is that an “Evil Spider” has snuck into your room or your stuck trying to interpret a dream, i.e. “Afterlife.” There are so many details to living that, at times, artists don’t feel allowed to approach because it may not be seen like a “hit.” Yet, Fire On Marzz is humorous and hit-making. I could listen to this sweet, eccentric record on repeat because it is both fresh and different. It is just about a person trying to figure who who they are and how they feel, but yet BENEE treats this as an uncomplicated journey. BENEE – Want Me Back .
You feel what you feel, you dream what you dream, and you live how you live. Simple and Fun!In addition, BENEE”s voice feels like a bag of heart-shaped, cherry-flavored candy. Hence, my prior reference on how this record appears “poppable.” There is nothing “deep” or vicious about it; it truly is light, and we all need that.
