Album Review: Blessed Released “Love Letters” For Your Ears

Blessed might have earned his name. Born in Accra, Ghana, in a time when sickness was sweeping through newborns, his parents were shocked/ relieved that the baby they had taken so long to conceive remained untouched by illness. Dedicating their lives to ministry, they traveled the world preaching God’s word, and giving Blessed an upbringing that, unavoidably, expanded his creativity. Love Letters is his music manifestation of all that he has seen, and wishes to see from himself and the world.

Love Letters is an intriguing EP because it was born straight from Blessed’s literal present. No lyrics were written down; only ad-libs, spoken words, and inspired choruses were used to represent something Blessed always wanted to show, himself. A shy kid, Blessed has used Love Letters’ as both a music challenge to and discovery of himself. The endeavor worked with tracks that feel like alternative Hip Hop. His instrumentals feel made in homage to his creative icons, Kanye West and Frank Ocean, whom all see beats as mood-controllers. “Mistakes” brings an ambiance of dance and flowing, lustful dread, while “One And Only” creates an atmosphere of synchronized, synth- lasers and love. Blessed knows how to match material images or motions with spiritual attributes, which makes sense giving his religious background. Both lyrically and instrumentally, he presents the body, heart, and mind as casings for what the soul truly wants, especially in terms of its shared life with others. I could not agree with his idea more, and it adds to Love Letters being a touchable or real embodiment of something unseen and universal: love.

I am incredibly impressed with Blessed’s EP, and it shows a bright future for him.  As I always say, when you are in the beginnings of your career, potential and promise are the essential images you want to portray. Love Letters is a record that moves your heart and feet, but, more importantly, moves your imagination to see and hear more of Blessed. From just 6 songs, I could already picture hundreds more from this aspiring rapper/ melodic singer. With a flow that is stepped in fluidity, as if rhyming was like walking to him, Blessed has a lot of blessings to look forward to. For More Information On Blessed Click Here.
