Album Review: Blimes And Gab Will Make You Talk About Them
With their debut set for June 26, Blimes And Gab’s Talk About It is a bombastic, rambunctious, and beat-thriving introduction.Listening to the album, I kept on thinking if Run The Jewels did a Fresh Prince Episode, and MC Lyte and Eve guest-starred for a rap battle. IMAGINE! Like the latter artists and the iconic, 90’s sitcom, Blimes and Gab are colorful, witty, and unafraid to bust through the scene.
Part of why we love such iconic, cultural figures and moments is because they are not just confidently themselves but also loudly on display. They undo a social norm of being taught to be quiet, meek, safe, and unseen. For them, to blend in is to die because NO FUN was ever had by blending in; unless you were blending in some tequila in your drink. HA! Thus, from “Sacred” to “Un Deux Trois,” it is hard not to want to run up into locations like I was Martin dancing on Gina…. the cultural references in this review are CREME! Still, I have said for while that the 90’s are about to come back blazing as a stylistic influence, and Blimes and Gab’s Talk About It is further proof.
Blimes and Gab – Un Deux Trois
If Chloe X Halle are bringing back 90’s R&B then Blimes And Gab are summoning 90’s Hip Hop; etching out its light-hearted nature and inherent desire to affirm its presence is known, praised, and respected. Literally, every song, in some way, is about how Blimes And Gab are super cool, looking for a party, and will run through anyone that tries to say they are not. Naturally, I love the dynamic, especially in these crazy times. Is it okay to dance and act like you are invisible, when most people are trying to figure out if they are “asymptomatic”? Welp! Personally, you have to have known joy in order to know how to defend it, which is the ultimate message of Talk About It. Blimes And Gab are out of this world, but, landing on earth to show the world, you have to love yourself to know how to make sure others respect you.
Blimes and Gab – Shellys (It’s Chill) (Lyric video)
THIS ALBUM IS THEIR DEBUT! WHAT! AND THEY GOT METHOD MAN ON A TRACK! (HOT DAMN!)Their rhymes feel like a series of Instagram captions we all wish we could come up with to appear unstoppable, and this album is unstoppable. In perspective, it is produced meticulously; with every rhythm and lyric feeling so precisely placed. Moreover, their voices, whether singing or rapping, are buttery smooth. They feel effortless and strong; with skits interspersed throughout the record to make the album seem cinematic in scope. For More Information on Blimes And Gab’s Talk About It Click Here.
