Album Review: Buscabulla Te Piden Que “Regresa”
It is such a strange time in music because …. it is a weird world. People’s tastes are all over the place like, their moods, but it does not mean that people don’t get in good moods or are nt asking for a good beat to dance at home. Buscabulla’s Regresa is perfect because it combines people’s moody vibes and their urge to still feel physical and moving, even if in quarantine.

If synth-waves could come to life, they would say, “Thank you, Buscabulla.” Their synth-pop is so seductive and fun, which is not always easy to pull for “synth-pop.” While pop music has grown to be divided more by its emotions, anxiety pop, synth-pop feels like its classic, cheery self. I guess you can say synth-pop is happy pop, and Regresa makes you feel good. Yet, it does it in a way that is smooth and non-bombarding. They are not about getting the party lit as much as making it feel light.
From “Nydia” to “El Aprieto” or “Manda Fuego” to “Ta Que Tiembla,” that album has an atmospheric vibe; as if every rhythm is a neon light flashing above you as you dance and say Raquel Berríos and Luis Alfredo Del Valle are 100% amazing. This fierce, Boricua duo understand a beat is a key to a world, and, in this record, that meant opening the door to self-reflection, and it makes sense why; it is about their return to Puerto Rico Post- Hurricane Maria.
Buscabulla – Vámono (Official Video)
Let me tell you something! Puerto Rico HAS changed since Hurricane Maria, and with the recent hit of earthquakes, that are still happening, and the pandemic; it is an island that has 100% been battered by recent years. Yet, is there is one thing that remains true about Borinquen, is that we are resilient: a theme that recurs throughout Regresa. Songs such as, “No Sabemos,” “Volta,” and “Vamono” touch upon the uncertainty of whether you’ll ever feel normal again after what was “normal” to you has been erased. Such a them is important and relevant for today, and is hung through Raquel’s hushing voice; her sugary, calm voice paces through rich thought and feel-good vibes to give Regresa an ultimate feeling of healing. In essence, they learn that going back is necessary to go forward; aveces, hay que regresar para adelantar. Buscabulla’s Regresa Comes Ou May 8.
