Album Review: Cam Meets You On The Otherside
Cam has one of the most unique voices I have ever heard. From Rihanna to Miley Cyrus or Ariana to Queen Mariah, people love a voice that sounds one of a kind: no matter what the range. Frankly, it is the aspiration of every artist to sound unlike anyone, but, usually, they focus on their sonic backdrops and even lyrics to do that. Yet, it is your literal voice that can make you sound like a gold coin in a barrel of silver ones. In The Otherside, Cam gives her best uniqueness, and the result is an album made for repeating on October 30.
You know you are a good artist when someone does not even “rock with your genre,” but everyone loves you anyway. It is why even the most devout R&B and Latin Music lover, like myself, could jam to Dolly Parton like nothing. Cam has this capacity because, again, her voice is s rich and textured in her simplicity, which she uses to revive the beauty of heartbreak. Yes, I said it, “The Beauty of Heartbreak.”

The Otherside truly is an album about getting through to the other side of heartbreak, and how the process, in its own right, is a stunning display of humanity and its resilience. We all know the certain recipe to getting over loss: a barrel of ice cream, an over-sized comforter, 10 million Netflix recommendations, and occasional wine and cries with your besties. Oh! I can’t forget looking out the window with a handful of tears streaming from your eyes as you watch people that you SWEAR are happier than you. Ugh! THE TORTURE! Yet, Cam has a way of making the sadness of love-lost feel like a celebration of a person’s healing: you loved, he left, and now you gain strength instead.
Cam – Diane (Official Music Video)
“Forgetting You,” “Diane,” “Like A Movie,” and “What Goodbye Means” feel like the tracks you turn up, no matter what their tone or pace, and belt out. I am talking singing out loud and cleaning your house, or laying out in the couch and mouthing the words as you imagine yourself on stage with Cam. The point is that while other artists are visual in the lyrical setting of their songs, which Cam is, her voice makes you envision her. You see her in “Classic” and “Happier For You” as she realizes, like many women, that you can write a great, love story with a guy and still end up writing a new chapter on your own. Yet, don’t fear, that next chapter might be your best yet. Click Here To Buy Cam’s The Otherside.
