Album Review: Charli XCX Shows You Who Is “Charli”

When I tell you I LOVE Charli XCX, I mean it sincerely. When Gov Ball canceled her set, I took it as an omen that that Sunday was going to go wrong and it did! It was as if The Fates summoned a disastrous rainstorm for not including the “Fancy” singer. Welp, you, definitely, feel fate backs her in her album, Charli.

Of all the pop stars and their journey, Charli XCX feels like the one that always knew her vision. There is nothing wrong with “finding yourself;” something you will do around 20 millions times in life. Yet, it is a weird place to know who you are in a situation or time in your life when others don’t believe you can. Having given so many hits to other artists, Charl XCX has built her career as a giver and earned her clout. Charli feels like her saying, “I Been Here! I Am Here! I Will ALWAYS BE HERE!” Frankly, I’m living for the confidence.

Charli XCX & Christine and the Queens – Gone [Official Video]

Perhaps, the most innovative aspect of Charli XCX’s Charli is that it meticulously made for pop lovers. If you love this sugar-coated genre: the meme-worthy lyrics, the candied hooks, and the immense over-confidence it sparks in people then Charli’s got you. “Next Level,” “Shake It (FT. Big Freedia, CupcakKe, Brooke Candy & Pabllo Vittar), Blame It on Your Love (Ft. Lizzo),Cross You Out (Ft. Sky Ferreira), and Gone (FT. Christine and the Queens) are some of the biggest bops on this record; encouraging you to get with yourself, whether you can “get” with someone else or not. I support the mentality (lol!), especially because pop music loves the young woman pining over the guy that didn’t want her. Yet, Charli XCX does not pine…. she punches.

Charli XCX & Troye Sivan – 1999 [Official Video]

The biggest asset Charli does to Charli XCX’s career is that it furthers her image as a badass that could summon half of the music industry to back her with one Thanos snap. This album has so many features, but they work to back and support Charli XCX as a hit-maker. No matter who joins her, she never stops feeling like the lead: putting crush next to candy and showing she knows how to set up a saccharine win. For More Information On Charli XCX click here.
