Album Review: Hoodcelebrityy Is “Inna Real Life” For Jamaica
When some artists are called “new artists,” the truth is that they are really only new to you. The term “new” is in reference to them popping some sort of “stratosphere” that was blocking them from turning their unique talent into common knowledge. Yet, to make such a transition can take years, and HoodCelebritty is an example of that. Her new LP, Inna Real Life, is a culmination of a lot of hard work that is opening the door to new opportunity.
Blessed to have heard the album at a listening Party, I got to see the excitement from her, family, and friends at feeling that she was rising to give Jamaican- Americans another voice. Yes, Inna Real Life has the dancehall/Reggae flared rhythms that are known in this Caribbean paradise. Yet, this island is rich in history and personality. It has birthed cultural phenomenas and artists, like Hoodcelebrityy, by being an example of how you dance through devastation.

You may not realize it, but you have survived many things, and learned to laugh again after you have cried. Congrats! From “Love” to “Inna Real Life,” Hoodcelebrityy infuses patois words and dialects to “tropicalize” this universal truth: we always overcome. From heartbreak to poverty or even the diminishment of our community/culture, we always survive enough to rise again and have a good time. Jamaica is an example of that, and Hoodcelebrityy wears such honor like badge for positivity. As in “Walking Trophy” or “Live Life,” she wants to show she is gold both inside and out.

Flashy, fun, and warm, Hoodcelebrityy proves you can wear gaudy and be godly. Who cares if you roll up into a club wearing a shiny print and more diamonds than Sierra Leone as long ad you are kind to everyone. This motivation is SO IMPORTANT in a world that truly believes what you wear is a measurement of who you are. Bad guys wear fine suits and good people can have holes in their sneakers.
