Album Review: Los Retros Is Making The 70’s “Everlasting”

Los Retros’ Everlasting hits you like a 70’s panorama. You are rocking bell-bottoms, turning up the vinyl, smoking a spliff, picking through your hair, and looking at the sun when your friends arrive to pick you up in their Volkswagon. What A LIFE! This EP is magically, unabashedly retro, and I live for the fantasy of it.

People have the tendency to look at the past with glamorous eyes; as if every decade didn’t have it own bag of social justice issues it was trying to toss into the next one. Yet, if there is one thing we can always long for, from the past, it is music and art. Certain forms and eras really stood out, and Los Retros uses 70’s grooved jazz and rock to embrace his introspectiveness. He sings his songs like the shy guy, looking at himself in the mirror, declaring that THIS YEAR IS HIS YEAR! Come on! We have all done it, especially coy people.
Los Retros – Everlasting

When you are shy, you dream of being the sexy, confident person that everyone is charmed by. From “Sweet Honey” to “Fruitful,” Los Retros sings to being that guy; the one that lets his desires show, his personality blossom, his guitar melody, and every high note hit even higher. GOD! His voice is so enchanting, and has a surprising range. One minute he is cooly strolling through one octave to then go all Beegees and hit an incredibly high, disco-level note. He reminds me of that scene in Sister Act 2; where the kid busts the highest, surprising note in the middle of “Oh Happy Day.” He shares the same energy of making his voice feel rich, and then leaping through tones and pitches to assure people don’t underestimate its wealth. His music may be smooth, but its still filled with layers. For More Information On Los Retros’ Everlasting Click Here
