Album Review: Mark Ronson Is Giving You “Late Night Feelings”
The crazy thing about the times we are living is that they are not new. Evil rises and rears its ugly head, all the time, as a gentle reminder that it is still here and hateful. #howboring Yet, in these times, artists can be divided between two sectors. Those that rise to speak virtuous truth to corrupt power, and those that rise to support the latter by creating music that shows we fight for our life because it can be so FUN! Mark Ronson’s Late Night Feelings falls into the latter category.
Late Night Feelings feels like it was birthed in a disco by the Goddess of Love And Music. It’s songs whirl around you with a nostalgia for a romance you never had; makes you long and dream for the one that got away when, technically, he, she, or they have not even come yet. THAT is how you know a song is good; it makes you go through feelings you have never had and experience a story that you never lived. Hence, songs such as, “Don’t Leave Me Lonely.” “Pieces of Us,” and “2AM” make you either dance for love and good times or cry into a pillows because you really want them. In a way, we need both.

We need to have love and want it, and Late Night Feelings makes it the epicenter of disco-ball sound. Honestly, Mark Ronson has made this shiny, spinning sphere feel as mystical and predicative as a crystal ball. You can see a world/ a future where to “Find U Again” feels like an important goal or “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” is an accepted truth. Longing, lust, and love are riding on a carousel through every synth, chord, and bassline of this record; reminding you that music is born from imagination. Thus, inherently, it should take you to another world/ location.
