Album Review: Night Moves Ask Can You Really Find Me?
John Pelant and Micky Alfano, better know as Night Moves, have grown up, which means their messages as much as their music have matured in their new album, Can You Really Find Me?. Their pop psychedelia is velvety in effect; wrapping around you like covers from the cold, dark world. It is a sweet effect considering summer has begun, and people want to feel warped into a higher sense of feeling.
I reviewed Night Moves in concert, and was surprised by how moody and self-reflective their music was live. Premiering songs from the upcoming record, the concert was more psychedelic, while the album can feel more pop. Yet, both are catchy, especially in feelings. From, “Recollections” to “Angelina,” Night Moves treat songs like photographs; pictures of the last memory they shared with either a lover or a hope. In a way, both can feel interchangeable. When you loving something, anything, the loss or altering of that relationship can feel like a break-up.
Night Moves – Strands Align (Official Video)
There is a dreaminess to Night Moves sound that makes any emotion, good or bad, feel like a strange fruit you could bite into. They warp their synths, not wave them, so that they can feel fuzzed with imagination. “Coconut Grove,” “Ribboned Skies,” and “Strands Align” are prime examples of this effect, and John Pelant’s voice shines because of it. He transforms notes into colors; shading in images so that a story lives beneath the psychedelia. This is important because the latter genre can be treated as either mindful or mindless, but Night Moves see it as emotional. After all, you only get in your head when you feel something has gotten to your heart. Click Here To Buy Night Moves’ Can You Really Find Me? On June 28 Click Here.
