Album Review: Pitbull’s Climate Change Will Heat Up Your Summer.
As I listened to Pitbull’s Climate Change, I could not help but think “I wish this is what climate change actually meant”. If climate change meant club rhythms that make you dance as if you have rhythm, featured spots from the hottest artists on earth like Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Jason Derulo, and Leona Lewis, and the fiery rhymes that only Pitbull can spew to light a party, I would not find the notion so terrifying. Yet as real as climate change is, so is Mr. 305’s new dance album aptly titled the same.

Pitbull can certainly change the temperature of a room, and Climate Change is an elaboration of this well-known talent. Songs like, “Educate Ya (feat. Jason Derulo)” and “Bad Man (feat. Robin Thicke, Joe Perry & Travis Barker)” sound like classic Pitbull tracks meant to hype up a room as if life only existed in that space. Pitbull has an uncanny ability to make the outside world disappear as you live in his adrenaline infused one; where body heat is the only warmth you will know. Yet, Climate Change is an opportunity for Pitbull to try newer sounds that are currently dominating the club scene. “We Are Strong” feat. Kiesza is a re-vamped version of “Love Is A Battlefield” by Pat Benatar , and has a trop- house vibe that makes it wave through your headphones, Meanwhile, “Sexy Body (feat Jennifer Lopez)” and ”Messin’ Around (feat. Enrique Iglesias)” has tropical- trap influences that makes its bassline drop like concrete on the pavement of your mind. Yet, note that Pitbull never strays from the tropical feel of his music. For however much he grows in sound, he still wants you to feel like you are in the Caribbean having a blast on the beach with his friends Stephen Marley in “Options” and Flo Rida & LunchMoney Lewis on “Greenlight”. Just the names of those fellow superstars remind you of the summer tracks that have dominated previous years. Hence, it is no secret that Climate Change is prepping you for/ reminding you that summer is here.

Climate Change is pure fun ( I never thought I’d say that statement lol). It is dance track after dance track, and a further reiteration of the Pitbull we all know and love. His verses on “Freedom” and “Only Ones To Know feat. Leona Lewis” show PItbull’s underestimated/ under-praised verbosity. He can go from seductive to seething in rhymes, which is not always easy to appreciate when the beat sounds so good. Yet, you need to be an excellent rapper to match the quickness and loudness of “Can’t Have feat. Steven A. Clark & Ape Drums” or the smoothness of “Better On Me (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)”. Moreover, who can say that they brought together the random pairing of Austin Mahone and R. Kelly in a song called “Dedicated” ? Pitbull Can! Thus, no one can start your night-life like Pitbull, and when you have such a signature style/ music history like him you prove that you do not need to change as an artist; you just need to grow, and he does in Climate Change.
