Album Review: Raja Kumari Represents Her “Bloodline”
As the music industry opens up and aims for more diversity, we get gems like Raja Kumari: an Indian rapper who has a flow that could literally cut diamonds. I am ALL FOR MORE FEMALE RAPPERS! With Bloodline, Raja makes sure she is welcomed.
From her first track, “Shook,” to her last, “Karma,” you feel like Hip Hop has begun celebrating holi. The bassline tosses color into your ears to offer you something different, and there are elements of Bhangra to how she arranges rhythms to make you feel like you are the Wu-Tang Clan going global. She proves that one of the main reasons we need to diversify is to know the many different joys that are possible. Raja sounds and feels delectably different while fitting into Hip Hop’s essence of style and confidence.
Raja Kumari – SHOOK“Born Hustla,” “Still Care,” and “Robin Hood” have Raja singing to not only her self-defense but also the defense of the ones she loves and the communities in need. She spits her rhymes like low-key daggers that she can thrust without batting an eye, and she uses her melodies like flags being waved into battle. Her ability to balance consciousness with aggrandizement is HIP HOP! It is the knowledge that the world needs help while feeling like you are its savior. To people, this speaks to them. Every person has an invincibility and insecurity challenging them, but no one can transfer it into a bop quite like Raja Kumari.
Raja Kumari – KARMA (Audio)Bloodline is the first milestone for Raja Kumari, whom I hope has a long career because, again, no one sounds like her. She has a way of “popifying” strength; creating a sound that invites people to shut down any hater entering their space. While we should all be kind, Raja Kumari is here to show kindness isn’t blindness. For More Information On Raja Kumari Click Here.
