Album Review: Lauv Is Giving All 4 Nothing
Our mental health is fractured. You see it all the time. From the news to social media, and who is the exact culprit for why the world feels so crazy, and Laud’s new album is a hyper-focused self-analysis on why he, himself, is feeling cracked down by it. In a press conference for new record, All 4 Nothing, which is bop after bop and out August 5, he explained that it was “life goals” that have him feeling in survival mode.
I do not care what ANYBODY says when they say times are different. If in 1952, the age to have kids, a stable job, and a 401K was by 22, then in 2022, it has just moved up to 25. The irony is that if you can have those things by 35 then consider yourself lucky. The pressure to have not only a life, but a legacy by in your twenties has placed Lauv in a mental health crisis that is pretty much a commonality. Even those with the aforementioned items still don’t necessarily feel like they have a self-identity which is Lauv´s lyrical crux.
As he himself jammed to his own songs, my particular faves were because of how they embodied our ability to dance and be functional while carrying a 10 pound purse of inner turmoil and insecurity. Rhythms pulse like a game of Tron, as Lauv´s gentle voice emotes frustration. He is living in a world that tells him where he should be, but gives him no guide or network to get him there. I mean If the world wants to have all these things why make it so hard to get them and then …..enjoy them?
Sonically, the album is a Lauv best, and you could feel the pride and freedom he felt making it. This was a record of a man becoming emotionally honest with himself about how mentally unclear he has become, and that, believe it or not, feels different. Not many people connect heart and mind like two cousins that love each other like siblings but live in separate states. Click Here To Buy.
