Artist Close-Up: Alec Benjamin Is The “Boy In The Bubble”

Alec Benjamin is getting prepped to be a star, and he has a secret weapon: alienation. Now, more than ever, isolation seems to be a theme in music, politics, and, well, culture. From isolating others to isolating ourselves, the point is that a lot of people feel very lonely even if they are not alone, and “Boy In The Bubble” embraces that truth.

With a spoken word sensibility that makes each of his verses feel like tiny trips, Alec Benjamin’s “Boy In The Bubble” is infectious. On one listen, you feel like you have traveled through a thousand thoughts and a thousand more parties, where for some reason, you just didn’t feel like partying. Yet, do not get it twisted; it’s guitar laced rhythms will make you dance under the streamed light of any Brooklyn rooftop party, and Benjamin’s chilled vocally is perfect for making the unnoticeable go noticed. Moreover, it is perfect for young guy that considers himself a “narrator”.
Alec Benjamin – The Boy In The Bubble [Official Lyric Video]

Inspired by Eminem, Paul Simon, and Citizen Cope, the Phoenix-born, Los Angeles-based songwriter has fashioned a cinematic, lo-fi sound that stirred up online buzz. Yet, I think, my fave part of his tale of rising artists is his “parking lot shows” for fans outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts. There he handed out business cards to leave a tangible keepsake for those listening to remember they were there in very beginning; when he was performing outside of arenas in hopes of one day headlining them.
