Concert Review: Anthony Ramos Is Living That BLESSED LIFE At MHOW
Anthony Ramos is feeling good. His debut album is poppin, his ring finger is rockin, and his career is not stoppin. He is, literally, what we all dream of and go to psychics to confirm: in good health, money, and love. Hence, he was all grins at Music Hall of Williamsburg, and elated to see a crowd of people sing back to him the words of an album that just came out a few weeks ago: The Good & The Bad.
Ramos is 100% a story-teller. Not one song passed without a tale before or after it, but I did not mind. I am all for more entertainment when you pay a ticket because it makes the night feel more worth it. Perhaps, it is his acting/ theatrical background, but Ramos knows how to be expressive. We all know how to express ourselves, but clarity and charisma are separate, desired aspects to do so. Anthony had both, and made the audience feel like their best friend had sold out a Brooklyn venue and instagrammed them to met him at the after-party. In other words, it was lit.
Anthony Ramos – Mind Over Matter
I think the most powerful aspect of Ramos performance was that he reminded me of 90’s R&B. He felt like the Fresh Prince and Usher had united to crown him The Fresh Prince of Confessions; he was sining his truth and, the best part, is that he felt harmless and fun. He feels like the guy who sees a mosquito in his room and tries to escort it safely off the premises. I am here for it, especially when his voice hit those Usher riffs and crescendos that made the crowd salivate for a “U Got It Bad” cover. IMAGINE!
I see a lot of shows, and I don’t really like to say who to see or not because I believe every artist is a matter of taste. Some will fulfill a person that others will annoy. Yet, personality goes a long way in the world of concerts, especially in New York; where even the subway turnstile can turn into a venue for an opera singer or a NYU student looking to be discovered by a strolling, record exec on their lunch break. The point is that Anthony Ramos serves his heart, as much as his talent, when you see him live, and both are worth the show. For More Information On Anthony Ramos Click Here.
