Concert Review: Castlecomer Are Characters At Baby’s All Right
I remember being a child and having a grade schoolteacher who would point out certain kids, and say “Oh, you are a character!” It was not that they were “bad kids,” but they had distinctive personalities that could mold an entire room according to their whims. I kept on thinking of that quote/teacher at Castlecomer’s Baby’s All Right Show.
Casltecomer will be huge because they are a cast of characters, particularly, lead singer Bede. With his unique, “mini- curly fro,” he moves around the stage as if he has been stringing it along with him all his life. There are certain people that like “characters” are meant to be seen and observed by more eyes because they WANT to be; it is in their genetic writing. Bede has a flirtatious, punch-drunk dynamic with the crowd and the mic; acting as if he has been seduced by them and approaching the ambiance with an “Are you coming? I Dare Ya!” glare. Add on that his voice summons your inner cheer and outer dance, and Casltecomer’s music become emo-anthems.

The irony about “emo” is that it has an “IDGAF” demeanor. It truly is a word shortened for “emotional,” which is why you can plug it into any genre, but no “emo” band dwindles into a puddle of feelings. Instead, Castlecomer’s sound feels like someone is telling your soul to rise up or it will miss the ride. From “Move” to “Leaving” are subtly about what it takes to get us going onto the path to our desires, and the message can even be felt in their titles. Our eagerness to impress upon this world can ring in us like a “Fire Alarm”, and true love can cancel “All of The Noise” that blocks you from being everything.
With a self-titled debut album readying to be released, October 5, Castlecomer is BOUND for success. They are uproarious performers, but they also sing to the struggle to remain a little cocky after life hits you. Their lyrics reveal the balance between humility and arrogance comes in knowing you are the best at being yourself or rather you are everything when you see you can do anything. Add on that their melodies always twinge with a lightly keyed, disco groove, a psychedelic guitar, and a gut-busting bass and drums, and these guys are TOTALLY going to take over.
