Concert Review: Echosmith Made You Feel Alive At Irving Plaza

It is always weird to go to a concert where adults who cannot imagine having kids are drinking beers and watching adults who now live solely for them. While some artists dread the idea of kid and teenaged fans, thinking it is a sign that their music is immature, Echosmith cherish that their music is ageless. In fact, their sound is strictly about being and feeling alive.

“Joie De Vivre” or joy of living is what I would describe Echosmith’s concert ambiance. Starting with a big bang of confetti, which is usually saved for the end of a concert, made Echosmith rocket into their concert like a rainbow beam. It added a surprising surge of giddiness to a crowd that certainly did not need help. Maybe, it was the literal kids or the adults’ inner kids, but Echosmith not only entertained by commanded the audience. When it came to the crowd, if Echosmith said “Cheer!”, there was a massive “YAY!”, if they said “Jump”, there was a harmonious leap, and if they said “Clap”, the was a roaring applause.

If someone told me Echosmith were made of sugar, spice, everything nice, and some Chemical X, I would believe it. Yes, I know those are the same ingredients used to make the Powerpuff Girls, but the image would not be far off. Sydney, Noah, and Graham give a super-powered, super-charged vibe that could only be seen in a comic-book. They splash their hits like, “Future”, “Cool Kids”, “18”, and “Tell Her I Love Her” like they are paintballs striking a canvas. It was exciting to watch because all they had to do was play one note, and the crowd knew the exact song. The trio were being devoured like a happy, morning cartoon, and they had the spacey-set, an offering bouquet of roses, and sparkling personality to take it.

While Noah danced across the stage as if rhythm was his blood, Sydney sang as if her voice was a chandelier: swinging highly and brightly. This helped build the animated feel of songs like, “Hungry” or “Get Into My Car”, and reveled the colorfulness of their sound stems from the innocence of their approach. All their songs are about wanted to feel connected to either someone or something beyond themselves. While some artists talk about the anxiety of such a desire, Echosmith sing to the honor of having it. For More information On Echosmith Click Here.
