Concert Review: Elliot Moss Makes Music For The Contemporary
With his curly, blond hair dancing over his eye like an homage to Aaliyah, Elliot Moss brought a cool, introverted aesthetic to Elsewhere. He embodies the creative genius of “bedroom pop;” the man who closes off the world to bring about a new one through the rhythms born from instruments and Logic Pro. Yet, this magic is not to be lessened. If anything, technology has helped amplify the fact that music is at the palm of any intelligent mind that sees pressing play is like giving a person the keys to Narnia.

Literally, every track Elliot Moss played was made for contemporary dancers. I kept on thinking of the strange, symbolic moves that you see couples choreograph; tossing their bodies to the ground, flopping their arms to their knees, and kicking their heads back as if love punched them. Like contemporary dance, there is a lyrical and jazzy ballet that occurs within Elliot Moss’ songs that make them feel warped in rhythmic beauty; like a bunch of painted colors swirled in water and then you hydro dip your soul into it. For Moss, your heart is meant to be elegantly tie-dyed. The irony is that Moss is quieter and mellower compared to his sound.

I remember hearing, on a show, someone say they are the most extroverted introvert. Moss totally exemplifies that person, but his extroversion comes through music. He stands on stage and organizes beats like a doctor would his patient list. Yet, his voice is the medicine. He flows his vocality as to hold a note requires the same precision and thoughtfulness as a cooking measurement. He tosses his notes into the mix like a pinch of salt or a splash of sugar; in other words, a touch of pain or a hit of love. Yet, that emotiveness is so “now” in music. Thus, his Elsewhere show encompassed how relevant Moss is to what rising generations want in their new music heroes. For More Information On Elliot Moss Click Here.
