Concert Review: FKA Twigs Swings And Swords King’s Theatre

FKA Twigs took her performance to King’s Theatre for a two-night special that proved she is an artiste. She gives herself completely to the audience. From stripper pole dances to the ground gyrations, FKA Twigs showed that a body carries imagination. A sway of the hip and a hard twerk can make an entire audience dream of Magdalene.

King Theatre’s is stunningly gold and its historical importance seeps through every corner. Thus, I cannot imagine its founders saying, “One day a woman is going to wear a diamond- encrusted bra and panty and do one of the most elegant strip-teases this great nation have ever seen.” They did not think to dream that big! Yet, FKA Twigs choreography is what really sets her apart as show because she frames physicality like a set-piece, of which every move is a new image being designed. Hence, her choice of Magdalene was perfect for King’s Theatre because there are not too many historical figures so sexualized.
FKA twigs – Cellophane

While the myth of Magdalene has been altered and edited in history, it always contains an element of sensuality; the woman that loved Jesus and he loved her back. As FKA Twigs played from her new record, it was easy to understand the correlation. Her tracks emanated the yearning, fear, love, and faith that comes from being with someone that makes you want to be with yourself; a love that transforms you into a kinder, funner, and sexier person. I wish I could be one of the people that says being in love does not make me more confident in myself, but, frankly, I cannot see how it can’t. FKA Twigs show celebrated the anxiety and amazement of loving someone that does make you love yourself.
FKA twigs – holy terrain feat. Future

As her voice fluttered through the room, it was curious to see how FKA Twigs’ played with silence. From lighting to sound effects, King’s Theatre became an opera house of sorts, which I would not mind seeing one over there. Thus, there was so much energy and vibrancy coming from the stage that, when it became silent and the light focused solely on her, the room’s vibe changed into cosmic. She was a deity, and people felt compelled to praise her and declare their love. Those moments were so particular that they we’re unforgettable, which is why, whether you like FKA Twigs’ music or not, she delivers a show that is to be admired by all.
