Concert Review: Gallant Elevates My SOUL At Hammerstein

Gallant! Gallant! Gallant! I CAN’T EVEN WITH HIS VOCALITY! At Hammerstein, Gallant could have elevated spirits with his performance. His high notes would make an angel say, “Well, Damn!” If someone told me that Jesus was there to watch his show, but had to move to the back from the all the high-pitched frequencies, I would have said, “Come on, Jesus! You could handle it!” Yet, that level godliness in his voice is impactful and made his performance feel like co-headline with Sabrina Claudio.

It might be a match in sexual Heaven. Claudio sings to the sensuality of love; the way your heart feels so right, you want to make your body look and feel good for your lover. It is a beautiful thought that Gallant tapped into by showing the richness of love. Playing classics and new songs, Gallant’s lyrics awakened how loving someone makes you love yourself more. Perhaps, the biggest danger/ empowerment of relationships is that they can you make you feel so good that you forget your darkness. The question whether you are making that “forgetfulness” tethered to how your lover sees you. This nuance plays into Gallant’s songs, but it is hard to note them over his voice.

Gallant has a really good problem; he is the type of artist that you need to see and hear 20 millions times to get every note from his talent. Yet, it is so powerful, it is hard not to just bask in the beauty of his voice. MY GAWD! The audience looked like they were sun-bathing as they absorbed his voice getting higher and higher in light. Moreover, he has a fascinating, spazz tendency, which I would like to emulate in conversations to see others walk away fro me. On stage, bolting into frenetic, sporadic, but still rhythmic movement looked so cool, which is such a performer move. He made the vulnerable things we would never casually reveal feel like needed honesty and the moves we would never dance feel like an easy stroll in the park.
