Concert Review: Goldchild Are Breezy At Knitting Factory
Breezy is a word I often use when describing a concert’s atmosphere. In truth, I try to decipher the emotions, moods, and vibrations a show will offer you because concerts are an intuitive experience. They speak to our soul and what it needs. At Knitting Factory, Goldchild inspired breeziness.
We all need to feel lighter, and the best way to do that is to act lighter. Goldchild practically float on stage with how easy they feel in chord and person. From “Sleepless Nights” to “Rainbows,” Goldchild build an atmosphere that truly is like a psychedelic countryside. It is as if you are in a field of neon-colored grains under a muggy sun. You sit and let their windy arrangements gush over you. Yet, the keyword is “muggy” because there is something sunny yet dampening to their melodies. Goldchild hit you like humidity; engulfing you skin with warm, sticking instrumentals and verses. Add on that Emily Fehler’s voice is balmy and mellow, and their tracks go as hard as a hand gently pressing on a pillow.
What fascinates about Goldchild’s show is that it brushes through your night. Fehler’s vocals literally comb through lyrics like hair; untying emotional knots and leaving songs such as, “Lose The Light” and “Santa Fe” feeling smooth and shined in strings. Their lyrics peak like eyes opening to the brighter skies of their life, and Goldchild are an easy choice for a night show. In between tracks, the band is pretty still and quiet; preferring to keep the sounds going because it is vital to their psych-folk frequencies. They are truly swirling splashes of country sonics with a purple haze that makes them dreamy.
Perhaps, the most exciting thing about Goldchild is their potential. A psych-country sound with verses on love is not the most common combination. Moreover, they are rising in a time where people are welcoming more electro, psychedelic infusions into their favorite genres. Why? Because when times get rough, more people, oddly enough, try to get easier. It is like being pushed to the brink, and deciding that a life on the edge is not what you want. Thus, Goldchild offer an opportunity to not be “edgy” as much as calm, cool, and collected. For More Information On Goldchild Click Here.
