Concert Review: House of Vans Creates An Ambiance With Slowdive

HOUSE OF VANS is having its final, summer series in NYC. This Brooklyn staple that I also abbreviated HOV, in honor of Jay-Z, is continuing its summer series with creme de la creme artistes. Slowdive, Farrows, and Voorhees created an ambiance in this skating park that turned it into a living painting.

With a visual experience by Drew Reynolds and Ivan Seal splashed across HOV’s walls, the space felt its most artistic yet. Combining the ambient sounds of its acts allowed these pictures and painting, melding together through cinematic projection, to create a very Legion-esque domain. Suddenly, you were in a world where the strange was normal, your eyes could happily deceive, and your ears were like hands carrying a bag of rhythmic thoughts. It was a very relaxing atmosphere that had people lying down across skating rink to drink their FREE Goose Island Beer.Slowdive – Sugar for the Pill (Official Video)

Yes, my lovelies, I always highlight FREE in articles because it is such a rare term, especially in New York. In some ways, its freeness in beer and skate is what attract so many young, hip people to House of Vans BK. Walking in to young women with multi-colored hair and dresses while guys rocked eccentric hair-styles, beards, and cigarettes, HOV felt like the coolest bar in New York. Moreover, this show, in particular, gave a calming vibe because the skaters were replaced with paintings, and people could fully absorb Slowdive.

You can’t go wrong with A FREE Slowdive show because its price does not degrade quality. On the contrary, the band gave a sleek, sorbent show that felt filled by the liquid-like fluidity of, again, the visual art displays. Everything matched so well and meticulously, you almost forgot it was FREE! (lol!) Still, it is not everyday Millennials or anyone feels treated luxuriously without having to pay. Yet, House of Vans, like BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival, builds its concerts like cultures. Each show attracts a certain aesthetic by bringing forth bands that do not simply make music; they spark movements. For More Information On House of Vans Click Here.
