Album Review: Ider Give An Emotional Education On Youth

I am TOTALLY feeling Ider’s Emotional Education. It feels as plushy and squishy are we all imagine sentiments to feel. Yet, there is an unabashed embrace to how “emotional” emotions are, and, in that, Ider’s debut feels delightfully easy.

I have long spoken about the looping nature of emotions, and how it molds our behaviors and choices. If we always feels like the victim, in relationships, unworthy of someone that cherishes us, then we have the tendency to choose people that continue that feeling within us. Yet, how you break a behavior derives from how you break the emotion feeding it. Hence, Emotional Education feels like a synth-pop reformation; using dreamy, digitized rhythms to make self-analysis appear like a quick trip to your keyboard for a songwriting session. Ugh… IF ONLY!

IDER – Wu Baby (Official Video)

In my interview with Together Pangea, William Keegan spoke on how knowing you need to do better does not mean you run off and do it. Tracks like, “Saddest Generation,” “Busy Being A Rockstar,” “Clinging To The Weekend, ” and “Invincible” feel like they were co-written by Fun and Hopelessness, which completely speak to younger generations. We have an inner zest and blinding optimism that we can heal the world, only to find that the world’s issues and our own self-image woes run a little deeper than expected. Thus, the fantasy quality of Ider’s sound makes them come off like Track 3 of Euphoria’s soundtrack; a phenomenal show that visually stuns on how guttural it can feel to be young.

IDER – You’ve Got Your Whole Life Ahead Of You Baby

Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville claim to have drawn on themes of anxiety, identity, mental health, and the human condition throughout. Both share vocals that feel as pressed and plush as a pillow, which is rightful considering that they are discussing how suffocating life can feel and appear. Yet, this album is a breath of fresh air and is remarkable on its ability to earn a repeat play. For More Information On Ider And To Buy Emotional Education Click Here.
