Concert Review: JP Saxe Makes You Fall In Like At Gramercy Theatre

JP Saxe is a sensitive soul, and that is the key to his rising following. Some of us, no matter how hard we try, we cannot cover that we wear our heart on our sleeve. At Gramercy Theatre, JP Saxe did not even try to hide it.

The most annoying thing about being an open heart is that, sometimes, you do not want to be it. Yet, for some reason, your feelings show on your face, your posture, or even in your energy. For JP Saxe it showed in his music. From “25 In Barcelona” to “The Few Things,” JP Saxe sung to falling hard for someone, and, unfortunately, being pushed hard out of their life. After all, no break-up goes without some messiness because no romance is squeaky clean. Yet, love purifies itself through how much you like someone.

One of the most important things to a relationship’s prosperity is whether you are friends with your partner. Songs such as, “Blurry” and “Anybody Else” reminded me that falling in like is as important as falling in love. JP Saxe sets up his verses like they are the details of someone he loves/loved. Guitar melodies carry the weighted wealth of seeing the beauty in “the few things” your lover does that no one knows about. For him, true love is when you become your partner’s diary; holding sacred their quirks and inner thoughts as if they are casually magnificent. Yet, for all depth, JP Saxe is still a regular guy.

The charm of JP Saxe is that you felt like you could have a beer with him. Like after his Gramercy Theatre set, you could have a laugh and chat on the madness of being in this world. This is a real blessing, that I mention when artists have it, because it amplifies their voice. JP Saxe’s vocals burn and seethe as if he was branding his emotions into his lyrics. With such a rich vocality, he does not have to do much to make you feel, but presence and personality go a long way in a world filled with talent. For More Information On JP Saxe Click Here.
