Concert Review: Katie Herzig Sings To Failures And Win At Bowery Ballroom

8 Albums! That is how many Katie Herzig has achieved in her life, yet…. you would not know it. Perhaps, the marvel of Katie Herzig’s style as a performer is that she is so accomplished, but so casual and fresh about it. At Bowery Ballroom, she felt new because she is humbled by music.

Tracks like, “Moment of Bliss”, “Lost And Found”, and “Best Day of Your Life” played to feeling surrounded by all the ingredients to feel alive, but trying to figure out what is your recipe? In a world that believes there is a mass, set formula for happiness, success, and peace, Herzig’s music is for those that realize this is implausible. Everyone has their own way of achieving such things, and life is about figuring that out. From “Proud” to “Way To The Future” or even her cover of Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida,” this jovial personality sang to failing, being okay with it, and seeing that efforts can give you more meaning than accomplishments.

Maybe, it is because I had seen Joan A Police Woman this, but I felt very aware of Herzig’s capacity to make vulnerability and one’s inner fears feel surrounding. It was as if my mind had been switched on by a voice that fractures and pulps verses to give them a fleshed sense. From quick quips with her band to tales about her life, Herzig showed that musicians are not artists because they make music as much they turn their life into a song. Absolutely, every track felt linked to her soul, and pumped like a heart. Hence, instrumentally, she sets her songs like they are a varied display of mirrors; each one has a different shape and distortion but always reflects the same person: herself.

Dim lighting, good people, and a leisurely ambiance, Katie Herzig’s show felt easy; like a moment you squeeze into your day or week for an “emotional breather”. Sometimes, you need an instance to say I have made mistakes but I have grown, to which Kate Herzig offers it to you. For More Information on Katie Herzig Click Here.
