Concert Review: KT Tunstall Fearlessly Cares At Bowery
What does it mean to be rock n’ roll? For KT Tunstall, it does not mean to be “carefree”. No, this woman cares…. about the world, her fans, her music, and herself, which she makes clear through her show. Instead, for KT, rock n’roll is the transition from worry to care, which makes sense as to why it is considered a “rebellious” genre. Most revolutionaries fought for love, and, when you do that, you have to learn to fearlessly care.
Tunstall bashes around the stage as if music truly moves her. She has such a deep, genuine connection with music as a healing property, which is she is creator of hits such as, “Suddenly I See” and “Black Horse And The Cherry Tree.” Nearly every song she played, “(Still A) Weirdo,” “Dark Side of Me,” and “In This Body,” in some way, spoke for taking accountability for who you are are and acceptance for what your are going through rather than the typical anxious response. This explains why her shirt read, “F**K Luck;” to her you earn your spiritual worth through life’s material knocks. Thus, in an odd way, her show had a very older sister/ maternal quality to it.
KT Tunstall – Black Horse And The Cherry Tree
Now I am not saying KT Tunstall is 100 years old and is everybody’s mom and grandma. Instead, her show is proof that some people are born with a natural protective, compassionate strength, and their life’s journey is to learn that is not a weakness. Thus, Tunstall had no qualms speaking/singing to her woes, fear, misadventures, hopes, loves, and trials, which made her feel familial. Moreover, it made the audience admire her work even more because they felt they met the person as well as the artist. The result was a show that, again, embodied rock n’ roll.
KT Tunstall – Suddenly I See (Larger Than Life Version)
Vocally, Tunstall has a detailed voice. She treats her vocals like a pencil jotting down emotions but determined not to erase any. The irony is that, even in her “saddest” or most “tumultuous” songs she felt jovial. She was having the time of her life singing to a group of people having theirs as well. Hence, her concert felt like a music gathering; a forum for stories as much as songs. For More Information On KT Tunstall Click Here.
