Concert Review: Lemaitre Are A Party At Gramercy
Lemaitre’s Gramercy show was such a party concert. From the minute the duo came out, you knew that this night was going to be epic. So often a concert is about discovering the artist you thought you knew. Yet, this Norwegian, electronic duo is as apparent, in show, as they are in record; you are going to have a good time. DONE AND DONE!
With neon shapes that looked like connecting lightsabers ready to fight off negative siths, immediately, Lemaitre came with a force of light. First, I love when artists use sage before they get on, and, from the back of the stage, you could smell the sweet scent of this clearing plant. It was as if they were preparing to take away everyone’s inner demons and anxieties. Thus, Ketil Jansen and Ulrik Denizou Lund are two sides of the same “party coin”. Ketil bounces around between keys and vocals to emanate to the audience, “It is time to GET DOWN!” Meanwhile, Ulrik is a consistent smile as he plays instruments with beer cans.
Ketil and Ulrik show the duality of having a good time. Ketil is like a rocket-ship, onstage, that refuses to land. He is frenetic, and creates beats as if he punching a punching bag. He uses the concert space like a venting one, and, when he sings, it is cathartic; like a man finally breathing after so much chaos. Meanwhile, Ulrik plucks keys and guitar strings with a settled easy. He embodies the calm joy of having a good time with your friends. Together, they are a “show up and show off” duo; taking over the night as if they own it. Songs such as, “We Got U,” “Rocket Girl,” and “Closer” embody their essence of super confidence, which is needed for a good time.
Lemaitre’s music is like a bounce house for adults, and, in order to jump in, you have to be confident. I always say certain shows are solely for those that want to feel good and be happy without ANY mental blocks. Lemaitre certainly fulfill that requirement. For More Information On Lemaitre Click Here.
