Concert Review: Leon Bridges Has Found His Gold Diggers’ Sound
Leon Bridges is getting to release Gold-Diggers Sound, and streaming live from Spotify, he introduced the world to a new him, and, frankly, I liked it. Now, forgive my candidness, but it felt like the most authentic version of himself and his sound. Yes, authentic is a loose word, but it is the truth for a man whose no longer seeking to make music as much as himself.
Now, let me explain. 2020 was a year that left a lot of people feeling pried open: for better or worse. If you said you were doing great and never felt better, most would either see you as a liar or a Kardashian on a private island. Yet, Leon did something that a lot of people are doing now for the first time ever….. become themselves. Maybe, I won’t return to my old job and will chase a dream or I will finally move despite years of telling myself, “Here is where it is at!” Of course, these are general examples, but as Leon walked through apartment halls, laughed with friends, and put on his clothes, he spoke sung to tenderness while being a “black man in the grip of an impresser.”
Mostly improv, the album is stunning and smooth. Pouring from his soul, for you, to keep refreshed through the summer heat. He seems confident and fluid, especially because every song lyric and sound is based on what he feels, at the moment. It is a really cool twist because, technically, it means that his challenge, in making this album, was not challenging himself. It is a unique reflection of how his songs, again, are based on a black man in the grip of the oppressor who seeks tenderness in the hands of a black woman. In essence, the way someone loves us can be our refuge to how someone hates us. Overall, the album, along with Leon’s performance, are an exemplar of “leveling up” for a young man that /by nature attains excellence. For More Information On Leon Bridges Click Here.
