Concert Review: Lola Marsh Turn Rough Trade Into A Romantic Eden

I always say, “Great things never change, but they do grow!” I thought about putting that in my tombstone, but it felt oxymoronic. Yet, seeing Lola Marsh at Rough Trade showed me that music matures with its artists.

Like the last time I saw Lola Marsh, they garnished their set like it was the Garden of Eden. Bigger plants and more flowers adorned the stage as if to symbolize they, themselves, were bigger as artists, persons, and speakers of love. Once gain, they captivated the audience with their, true to form, bohemian chic. Yael Shoshana Cohen is a style icon! She matches effortlessness with sophistication, and carries them both in her body and her voice. She swishes through songs like, “She’s A Rainbow”, “The Wind”, and “Remember Roses” as if her voice had decided to swim under a midnight moon; even high kicking her legs as if to stroke forward. There is something starry, elegant, and whimsical to her voice that felt like it was moonlight shining upon the staged roses, gazing crowd, and backing vocalist Gil Landau.
LOLA MARSH – Wishing Girl (Official Video)

From “You’re Mine” to “Wishing Girl”, your eyes and ears may veer towards Cohen’s cool presence, but Landau is not far behind. He is the pedestal from which Cohen stands, and draws in the crowd with his own chilled demeanor. Their music and style has grown to elaborate the best aspect of themselves: their relaxed wisdom on love. It was as if they matured enough to further see and make others witness that relationships are like alternating paths within a journey. Even if you leave a relationship, like one would a road, you can never forget that it was taken to get you somewhere. There is something highly lovely about that notion, and it transformed their concert into the live show embodiment of casual, candlelight dinner.
Lola Marsh – She’s A Rainbow (live from Capitol Studios)

There is no arguing; Lola Marsh of one of the best dream pop artists out there. Yet, they prove dream pop does not only soar on the dreaminess of sound, but also the dreaminess of sentiment. Sure, their voices throb like a flame learning for the first time how to burn brightly, but they thrive on making that flame spark with love’s folkish rejuvenation. I do not know why, but I love Love, and Lola Marsh love to sing to it. For More Information On Lola Marsh Click Here.
