Lord Huron Sings To My Heartbreaks At Pier 17

Sometimes, I wish my exes would have just sung their hearts out and begged me to take them back because I was the best thing that ever happened to them. Now, I KNOW I AM NOT ALONE IN FEELING THAT WAY! Yet, I was surprised that, at Pier 17, Lord Huron’s Ben Schneider felt like the ultimate satisfier of that desire: standing on the top of neon-green, stage desert pleading to a woman for forgiveness.

I call it the “Bruno Mars Effect;” being a man who writes lyrics where you take the female perspective, apologize for your ills towards her, and pick up her emotional weights enough to ignite a sing-along. Yes, that is a very specific name/ theory, but it is a rhetorical move that never fails, and felt dominant in tracks like, “The Night We Met” and “Love Me Like You Used To.” Schneider shimmied across that stage like Elvis, and moved his voice like a white flag waving surrender to say, “You were right! I was wrong! Love me again!” Imagine all the people you would still love or, at least, would have stayed in your life had “sorry” not been such a hard word to say.

Schneider has a voice that pines and pleads for love with such a moving passion that the lyrics poured out of him like a spiritual waterfall to embody that, sometimes, owning your vulnerability is a sign of strength. From  “ She Lit A Fire“ to “The World Ender,“ vulnerability was all over Lord Huron’s electric performance to prove a “rock n’ roll” mindset is not about rebellion as much as openness. Each band member felt so solidified in their musicality and greatness that I felt humbled. It reminded me how the goal every band is to become an emotional “constant” for fans. You could feel in the dewy air that even though Lord Huron were playing, it was the crowd that was performing.

While we do things for ourselves, like get married, go clubbing, buy that ice cream we were avoiding, or perform massive hits in public, it is what we do for others that really matter. Lord Huron was like Haley’s Comet to their fans; a rare sight that reminded them they apart of the cosmos. Feeling that energy and how the sky cleared just before their show felt like such a lightening of my heart. For More Information On Lord Huron Click Here.
