Concert Review: Maggie Miles Builds A Road of Sound At Mercury

Maggie Miles is arising in the perfect era right now. Between Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers, there seems to be a plethora of rock n’ roll ladies that know how to dance like gypsies, write like gurus, and steal our hearts like BADASS THIEVES! UGH! As more women enter the music industry to sing to how unnerving and stunning it is to be human and woman in a “man’s world,” Maggie Miles felt like another hat tossed in the mix to show she has a few tricks herself.
Maggie Miles – Shiver

I always say it is not easy to be an opener, but Maggie Miles had full “headline” energy. She was introducing herself to the crowd with a power that said, “You’ll remember me!” This power so potent the crowd asked for an encore. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO MAKE A CROWD WANT AN ENCORE AS AN OPENER! Usually, the audience is looking at you like you are adorable but they paid 20 dollars for the guy on the top of the bill. Yet, no one could deny how exuberant she felt on stage; commanding the crowd like someone who want us to learn from her songs as much as listen to them.

With new tracks and songs like, “Shiver” and “Split,” Maggie’s voice shone for its easy emotionality; its ability to crescendo with thoughtfulness. Add on that she’d sing the crowd with force and dance around the stage like it was her bedroom, and Maggie proved to everyone that confidence is casual. Even when she laughed at her wildness and felt nervous we all looked at her like Rihanna saying she is shy. There are some people who don’t look anxious or scared, like the most of us feel and show. Yet, those people are the ones the become artist; understanding that if you put your fear into a song, the music will heal it. Maggie Miles is getting healed.
