Concert Review: Michigander Sings For Those Trying Through Trials

Facts, I cried at the Michigander show. (lol!) I don’t know what happened. One minute, I was smiling and the next I got teary-eyed. I remember when I started the site and I reviewed Michigander, of which he wrote me such a nice note of thanks. We were both two people, independent, that acknowledged the others’ talent and ability to “try.” At Rough Trade, Michigander seemingly sang to those of us that cannot stop “trying,” even if we will never know “winning.”

Life is a journey, but only destinations seem to be glorified. Yet, for so many people, we never feel like we “arrive,” at least, to a place we wanted to be. All around us, in any form of media, we hear and see the stories of people that took risks and succeeded; holding up awards to proclaim, “Dreams come true!” Yet. they don’t always! You are never the first to try or the last, but whether you are one that succeeds is up to luck. Michigander’s music felt like the soundtrack for those that are working hard but are not that lucky. Those that are starting to feel a little sad with how “okay” they are.

Michigander – Misery

If dreams were stabilizing then most of us could say they come true. “Misery,” “Poplar,” and “Fears” talk about the crossroads many Millennials find themselves in at feeling older and slightly staler in vivacity. Despite being in out twenties, we can feel like day old bread; yeah, you can, technically, eat it, but it is not as good as a fresher one. We try so hard to achieve and get ahead, but, in the mean time. “okay” seems to be our best. With a voice as tender as an angel’s caress, audience members clutched their hands and chests while their eyes twinkled with understanding.

Michigander – Poplar

Michigander “got them,” and gave viewers’ songs that could let them cry and acknowledge, “Life is scary, and I don’t know how to make it happy.” While, by all means, he was just a guy, with a guitar, singing his broken heart out, Michigander was so simple he was cosmic. His lyrics and melodies waved like emotions sinking, crashing, and receding over you. All in all, it was a highly cathartic show.  For More Information Michigander Click Here.
