Concert Review: Mondo Cozmo Sings Against Gun Violence At Mercury Lounge

I have seen Mondo Cozmo a few times, and every time he is different. Some artists, to see one show, is to see them all. They may see a concert as a meal plan rather than an opportunity to cook up a new, lavish feast. In some ways, Cozmo takes the latter perspective, and, at Mercury Lounge, the food/ music he was serving was for thought.

On that night, Mondo felt his clearest and most determined in goal. He was chipper even though he laughingly flubbed a few lyrics in “Thunder”, which he swore he would not. Yet, his avid desire to remember verses came from the night carrying certain, targeted moral messages. Now more than ever, from gun violence to child migrant concentration camps, U.S. soil has grown darker, and Mondo Cozmo is an artist that sings from his heart. If something bothers him, then it will be elevated through songs, of which “Ballad of Vegas” stole the night.
Mondo Cozmo – Automatic

The new track was dedicated to the mass shootings plaguing America, of which Donald Trump could be heard, in the backdrop, claiming he would not be bought by lobbies or fail American children: two promises he did not complete. You could see in Mondo Cozmo’s demeanor and voice that this was a raw, powerful message he wanted to radiate to the crowd and it did. Cozmo’s vocality was, literally, made to scour and heighten the emotions of music should rile. It could be why the crowd could not stop saying thing like, “Damn!” or “F**K YA!”
Mondo Cozmo – Shine

Tracks like, “Higher”, “Your Motherf**ker”, and “Tonight Tonight” were rocker anthems that summoned everybody’s inner badass. You just wanted to kick a trash can, wear a leather jacket, and act like you never made a mistake. Yet, it was in his song “Plastic Soul”, of which he wrote for David Bowie, that he talked about his fear of dying but how, in truth, death is only a door to another life. Maybe, that is why he respects living so much. You don’t push someone to cross that door before their time. Thus, Mondo Cozmo has dedicated himself to giving “bar jams” that make everyone with a beer sing with friends their desire to “Shine”. For More Information On Mondo Cozmo Click Here.
