Concert Review: Morgxn Is A Pop Star At Bowery Ballroom
I have seen Morgxn a few times, and, like many artists, time has helped him grow as a performer. Unsurprisingly, he has grown in confidence and sheer love for his music, which made feel like, for the first time, I was watching the Pop Star version of Morgxn. While he is always interpersonal, telling the stories that inspired his songs, this time he was all about being an entertainer.
What I have always loved about Morgxn is that you feel his heart through his music. Never is there a song, from the scintillating “Vital” to the motivating “Carry The Weight” or the crushing “Alone/Forever,” that does not have a backstory. For however epic and vast his tracks may sound, they really do come from a heart that is breaking through its series of heartbreaks. Yet, dressed in what felt like a mechanic jumpsuit, orange shades, and a neon- yellow manicure, Morgxn gave some some “Rhythm Nation 2018” vibes that had the crowd going.

Dancing and wailing on notes like he was his own, personal church choir, cheers were unavoidable. Looking into the audience of impressed faces, his Bowery Ballroom show did two excellent moves. First, for those that were new to the Morgxn fanbase, it made them feel like a fool for not knowing his life- changing sound. From “Harpoon” to “Bruises,” Morgxn’s music is vulnerability over a sonic, virtual reality. Second, his concert proved to his “already fans” that they had made a worthy investment. As they sang his choruses, you felt their pride at seeing a guaranteed icon in the making.

Morgxn is unafraid to speak to compassion, even if he has to swim some political or societal waters. Still, while in every other show I felt like I had seen a talented friend, at Bowery, I felt like I had seen an full-on entertainer. It is hard to describe, but it was felt. He still carried the friendly charm that gives his audience a “one of us” feel, but his voice and presence spoke as if he had become the “one of us that will go very far for all of us.” For More Information On Morgxn Click Here.
