Concert Review: Nightly Revamp The EMO of Pop To Mercury Lounge
If there are two things that, consistently, shock native New Yorkers every year, it is meeting people that have dreamed, all their life, to come to our city and our snowy weather. We never expect either, and, often ask “Why?” to both. Being a native of the Concrete Jungle, though I love my city, I forget it is a legend to others, and, to Nightly, it lived up to the myth.
The Nashville trio were incredibly excited to perform a headlining show in New York; treating the moment as if it was God saying, “You are guys are making it big!” The room was moved by their excitement, and concluded that they should never take our MTA system if they want to keep their admiration. Yet,New York’s mythos fit into their music and their literal set. Behind them were two screens of people and streets quickly moving. Their music was singing the to the fast-paced energy of modern relationships; proving that even the “slowest relationship” feels Instagram official within a week.
Nightly – Who Am I To YouWith their band symbol,<3, looking like an emoji of a titled heart, Nightly’s songs like, “XO” and “Twenty Something,” sing to never feeling balanced or upright enough in a relationship. Hence, their “emo” pop relies on the emotionality of their verses and Jonathan Capeci’s voice. For many, eco has been defined by its guitar melodies, but Capeci’s shows it is also the delivery. He steads his voice like a beam connecting two sky-scrapers, and he has to walk from one to the other. Falling in love can, often, feel like this, especially when you are two people that stand tall on your own. It is not always easy to not feel bombarded by someone’s love, but Nightly make you want to be enveloped by it.
Nightly – Twenty SomethingThe best part of Nightly show was that it felt easy and energized. The band really works to connect with the crowd through their songs; as if they are delivering the anthems for Millennial love. Their presentation worked because the crowd danced and admired them as if they had put into songs the highs and lows of dating in 2019. For More Information On Nightly Click Here.
