Concert Review: Nyssa Is My Billy Idol At Sultan Room

There are concerts you go to when you want to feel good and then there are concerts you go to when you want to feel like a total badass. I am talking the shows that make you believe you can do what the artist does. In essence, the shows that leave you feeling not just confident but cocky. You have to be really good at your job to make others think they can do it.

At Sultan Room, Nyssa proved looking eased is at the heart of being a rocker. Rock is not just a sound, it is a spirit, and Nyssa’s show was proof that such an essence is effortless. In perspective, it makes sense Anyone can do kissy lips at a batch of onlookers, but not everyone can be Mick Jagger. Get the picture! The less you like you are trying to be you, the more everyone wants to try and be you. The aesthetic reminded me of the like of Billy Idol; that and Nyssa’s platinum hair.

NYSSA – I Don’t Wanna Live On The Moon (Without U) (Official Video)

Something about the way she swung her body and curled her lips as if she was two seconds away from joining Bill & Ted in a phone booth back to the 80’s was so retro cool. Moreover, it played to the Dionysian/ Dystopian swag of her verses and sounds.Yes, I said Dionysian- Dystopian to describe her style. Just when you thought I could not pull anymore from the sky for random comparisons…. I DID! Yet, Nyssa’s songs feel like the hymns for a cult of hopelessly hopeless; a bunch of people so over “time” and thinking of the “future,” they rather stay in the present of pretend they were in yester-year.

NYSSA “#1GIRL”

For Nyssa, partying like it is “1999” is a COMMAND because partying like it is 2059 might the most depressing thing you will ever do. #climatechange The sonic/ stylistic twist was perfect for a generation that really enjoys vintage and treating things like vinyls as if they are futuristic gadgets. Perhaps, it is because we have no idea of the future or we live in an era obsessed with drudging up the past with no plans of healing it. The point is Nyssa was like a breathe of ROCK to a crowd eager to feel “unstale.” For More Information On Nyssa Click Here.
