Concert Review: Rich Homie Quan Is Rich As In Spirit At Gramercy
My fascination with Rich Homie Quan began in a The Therapist episode. There you saw a man struggling with what it is to achieve your material goals, and realizing that you did not truly have spiritual ones. We all think that having money, homes, cars, and easy access to a private jet brings joy because, for most us, we will only dream of such luxury. Yet, what happens when you go from material desolation to a rich life? At Gramercy Theatre Rich Homie Quan played to deciphering what it is to be rich in spirit.
It was clear Rich wanted everyone to stay in the moment; consistently telling people he’ll do pics and vids later. While everyone was there for a party, considering his music is the backdrop of many crazy, good times, Rich felt like a cross between a man who wants to entertain, but also wants to inspire. Scoping through all of his music, from “Lifestyle” to “Never Fold”, Rich’s lyrics have grown, and reveal a battle that, again, most of us will not understand. When you actually achieve material success, how do you remember the lessons of your harder, economic times without reliving them.
Rich Homie Quan – Never Fold
It is a battle that many hip hop artists, and, frankly, anyone that has arisen from struggles must overcome: finding meaning beyond the tragedies you had to give light to what you have now. With his entourage behind him, Rich Homie Quan gave his love to the crowd, especially a woman named Danielle, who probably ruptured her vocal chords screaming “I Love You” to him. He was both appreciative, humorous, and owning of his effects. Some of the audience treated him like a god of fun and dance, while others treated him like a speaker of truths. Yet, both perspectives felt connected and natural for a man with a flow that chops, cuts, and paves through “wokeness” and wildness.
Rich Homie Quan – Replay
Perhaps the most surprising part about Rich Homie Quan’s concert is that he is only on his debut album. Rich As In Spirit is his first, signed record, but his sheer determination to mark his spot in the industry and on audiences makes him feel like a vet. His approach of the stage is of someone that has no doubt he belongs there, and that, perhaps, it is on that stage and through music where he is his truest self.
