Concert Review: Ruel Proves He Will Be Your New Teen Icon In NYC
I loved Ruel’s show because I felt like I was watching the very beginning of an icon/ teen heartthrob. There is no doubt that Ruel will be compared to the likes of Shawn Mendes, Justine Bieber, and Harry Styles. He is a young guy who pours his heart into love songs that are then played by every teen girl throughout the world. Yet, he gave a show, at Baby’s All Right, that made me appreciate music’s iconoclast.
When you are a teenager your only major responsibility or, at least the only one you should have, is to figure out your feelings. The adults handle the “adult issues,” like everything needed to maintain the house, but you just have to clean up your room, handle your text group, and make sure you do not forget your English paper’s due date. It is a simple life for a time when you are most emotionally complicated, and seeing a bunch of teenage girls yell and fantasize about Ruel as if he was their “dream guy” was fascinating. All he had to do was flick a finger, and mass screams and “I love you’s” would pulse through the air. Yet, his power, as an artist, comes in how he knows it.

To be a star, in this music industry, you do need a little arrogance or, at least, an impenetrable amount of confidence that consistently says, “I have a voice worth you listening!” Ruel certainly has a vocality that allows him to tie notes to an emotional, hot air balloon, and makes you watch as they float and burn throughout the ambiance. Covering tracks by fellow youth icons like Jack Garrett and Billie Eillish, and singing from his Ready EP, Ruel felt perfectly trained to be followed. Every move he made and every riff he gave felt like an homage to all the one-named pop legends like, Bieber, Beyonce, and Rihanna. Yet, he is Ruel!

Though friendly and sweet, Ruel’s charm comes in his complete self-awareness that he has the talent and determination to grow from small stages to arenas. For me, it is brilliant when you see young people own their capacities and dreams. Ruel does, and he gives a performance that says, “You are meeting a star,” and explains why so many fans are eager to show him their love. Why not love somebody whom is good? Lord knows, enough people love those whom are wrong. For More Information On Ruel Click Here.
