Concert Review: Samia HAS FANS At Bowery Ballroom

Color me shook! It has been a few years since I first reviewed Samia, and she is an entertainer. She is one of those artists that even if you do not like or know her music, you will have a blast at her show and find yourself singing along to her songs. Why? Because you will like her, and she sings as the most confident person to be tossed aside. Thus, at a Sold-Out Bowery show, filled with a Gen-Z celebrity actors, that I guess I should remain “nameless,” Samia’s show was for anyone who knew how to party in their brokenness.

We all have a little shadow on us that may pop up, occasionally, when we get quiet at work, hang out with friends, or are on our way to pick our delivery. It is that tiny voice that speaks to us like that Dr.Phil TikTok going viral, and could make us feel like the most dislikable human being to have ever existed while that, by chance, has friends and family that adores them. Irrational, right? How can you be loved and have no one to love you, at once? Well, the magic of Samia’s music is that it vibrantly sings to that deeply felt lie. Most of us feel isolated and ostracized, even in our own birthday party, and Samia has managed to make herself the inner voice of hope that fights our inner voice of doom.

Firstly, people like a woman who smile and dances freely. SAMIA EVEN TWERKED, which’s if you hear songs like,  “Show Up” and “Waverly,” you don’t exactly go all Megan Thee Stallion. Yet, her sweet goofiness was charming because we all have an inner silly we hide or feel ashamed about, but reveal to our closest friends. Thus, her ability to show her laughing, inner weird to everyone meant that, in some ways, her fans were friends. The Samia on stage singing the songs that made the night laced with crowd yells such as, “That’s my girl!” and “Get it, Sam!” Felt like the same person you would find in a coffee shop chilling. She didn’t become a star on stage, she was already one off it. Thus, her bringing friend like, opener Savannah Conley, to sing with her and get a bear hug, only solidified how she is her fans’ friend in song.

I knew, from the moment I saw her at Mercury Lounge at a show that was not so packed, that, one day, she would perform in packed, bigger spaces. Why? Because Samia emanates the warmth you need while singing to the coldness you can feel. That “hot/cold” dichotomy made her crowd feel like highschool reunion; where everybody knew everybody or had no problem introducing themselves because they all knew Samia.
