Concert Review: Shaed Are A Trampoline of Success At Bowery
OMG! I cannot believe how successful Shaed are becoming. I lie. I believe it, but more than ever fans are seeing it and so are they. I have been to quite a few of their concerts and they always get better because they accept their growth as musicians with a rising following. In some ways, their Bowery show was a testament to rising with your “rise.”
Shaed feel like 2019’s pop-disco response to heartbreak. It is no wonder Apple Music has used their tracks like, “Trampoline;” they are pop in sound and disco in style. They give glamor and glitz to feeling like a relationship has run you over like a truck. Their songs were filled with nuance perspectives on how long a heartbreak can last. Most pop tracks sing to “The Grand Break-Up” like it is this massive, WWE event; where both partners throw chairs at each other and try to get the final KO. The truth is a break-up is like a slow-moving wreck; you had no idea when you got in the car that it would crash, but, as it does, you keep wondering how, why, what and was it all preventable.

Lead singer Chelsea Lee has a voice that is crystalline. She delivers notes like healing crystals; shiny, pastel quartz meant to carry purposeful energy. Lee is proof that pop songs do carry weight and meaning, especially for the songwriter. Their tracks may have made the crowd prance and bop, but they all connected to the highs and lows of Lee’s personal life. She will be the first person to give her songs an origin story or proclaim how fellow bandmates, Spencer and Max ,saved her life.
I love a band that gets along, which is not a guarantee but a benefit. After all, a band is, technically, a business venture that could stem from or produce friendship but does not have to. Shaed like each other and it shows in how clean and clarifying their music strikes their fans and them. Shaed like who they are, especially to each other, and that makes for a feel good concert.
