Concert Review: Skylar Grey Is An Angel With Tattoos At LPR
The choice to love again is the choice to not keep hurting anymore. For Skylar Grey, she has made her “bad choices,” but now, engaged to her Elliott, life has given her a second chance at joy and revealed to her that true love makes you true to yourself. At LPR, she sang through her catalogue to reveal that you know your love is true for another person when it makes you feel honored to be good and determined to be better.
I don’t believe people heal people, but I do believe their love motivates you to heal yourself. From her classics like, “Love The Way You Lie” and “Clarity,” to new tracks such as, “Sober” and “Do You Remember,” Skylar’s voice emanated a balance of peace and pain. She is a phenomenal songwriter, and creates tracks that sing to the strong person forgiving him or herself for not being perfect. I always say strength feels weak, especially because no one is called to be brave or resilient when things are going right. This could be seen as she spoke about her future mother-in-law, and her struggles to be accepted by her. By the end of her story, she had the audience in prayers for good luck and moved by a winning song that broke hearts: “Angel With Tattoos.”
Skylar Grey – Stand By Me (Official)Skylar has an innate way of taking the most mundane things and making them chart-toppers. For example, her friend’s inability to garden, “Ain’t Nobody,” inspired a love song, and her appreciation for nature, “Moving Mountains,” became a gorgeous ballad on staying present and easing up on your ambitions. From “Coming Home” to “Glorious,” Skylar’s music had the LPR crowd hypnotized because it acknowledges how ugly we can feel when we are at our most virtuous. Thus, her soothing vocals and sweet acoustic melodies had a way of toning and texturizing how plain it feels to be redemptive and how luxurious it is to be in love.
Skylar Grey – Love The Way You Lie (Live on the Honda Stage at The Peppermint Club)By the end of the night, Skylar’s cool, calm personality had won the crowd. She is a solid person, and is so in love with her fiancé: who she proudly asked to marry her. It was so moving to see someone that knew the worst of themselves be mindful and self-loving enough to accept their best. Thus, as she laughed, covered Fleetwood Mac, and spoke about her work on Aquaman (“Everything I Need”), an evening with Skylar Grey felt like a night of a thousand dreams come true.
