Concert Review: City Farm Presents Summer Series Packs The Heat And Poetry
Nick Hakim, Zenizen, and Duendita played City Farm Presents Summer Series, at Industry City, and set up a mood that was vastly introspective. Each artist plays for the worlds that turn within us, of which our surroundings feel like the gravity keeping them in place for better or worse. Think about it! It is the choice we make and have made unto us, by people, that keep us tethered to this earth, of which each artist played to the moments when we wish we could float away and the other times when we did not mind staying.
I have seen Duendita play a few times and she is a sweetheart that sets up her vocals and sounds like one would a meditation/ vision board. Each note and rhythm she places glides with the picture of a better place, which does play to my previous point. Zenizen was equally passively imaginative. Both have a style that does not bombard you with vision so much as slide your mind like a old-time cinema reel but with color. The balance of classic and new fell at the feet of the richly voiced Nick Hakim.
The first time I ever heard Nick Hakim, I swear I said, “Umm…..yes please!” He has a voice that makes you clutch your chest, look back, and ask, “Where is that beauty coming from?” He tosses notes like Robin Hood does bags of gems and rubies to us, paupers, and I love it.There is a place for everyone in this world/ industry. There are those that can sing their heart out and those that can simply carry a note. There are those that can make you dance like there is no tomorrow, and other artists that make you want to lie in bed, watch rain fall, and dwindle the day’s most active activities to putting on your headphones. Nick Hakim can tap into those categories revealing to audiences that having a personality is like a million masks.
Our inner worlds are built by our feelings, and when one emotion dominates the rest of our sentiments, we can become a different person, and each artist tapped into this truth, which is perfect. City Farm Presents managed to curate artists and a scene that made its viewers feel different from their daily. It was romantic, sensual, fun, and thoughtful in its moodily musical pondering of love. After all, relationships change you because to love someone else is to push yourself to grow differently. It was crazy to see ad bunch of Brooklynites wonder depth of this statement while sweltering under a nightly heat-wave and stars feel that. Thus, City Farm Presents Summer Series sets up an outlet for pensive, poetic artists. This can be seen with their future lineup by Clicking HERE.
