Concert Review: The Courtneys Are Carefree Friends At Warsaw
The Courtneys are rising in a time when people want to be more insular and introspective. While most of us have always struggled to be outgoing and forthcoming with others, we cannot really say we are these things to ourselves. At Warsaw, The Courtneys came off like a trio of friends that understood you find “your people” when stop looking for them and start looking for yourself.
Frankly, it is crazy how, in life, the most magnificent moments are unplanned. For all that we want to shake life like a pillow for not “respecting” the idea you had in your head and every detail of your dream, we have to admit; its the unexpected that had led to really great memories. This is the dynamic that played throughout tracks like, “Minnesota,” “Lost Boys,” “Country Song,” and Millennial anthem, “Insufficient Funds.” (LOL!) These tracks may have spoken, in particular, to the twenty-something that is over-thinking who they are and should be in life, yet they carry a message that is fruitful for everyone: DON’T WORRY!
Honestly, “Don’t Worry” should be a top tattoo choice for self-affirmation next to “Love Yourself” and “Just Breathe.” For The Courtneys, it feels like their motto as they crack smiles, quips, and nods at each other and the audience as if their show was more a rehearsal than a concert. Of course, you might think that is not a compliment. Yet, I reference The Courtneys’ “rehearsal” dynamic to show their light-heartedness, and how it came off like the sweetness of feeling like you are the only ones in the room to impress. In this sense, The Courtneys show felt easy and nerveless because they understood; we, the audience, simply watch and decide whether we like or dislike you.
From “FND” to “Frankie,” the crowd loved them. The Courtneys are easy to impress, in part, because lead vocalist, Cute Courtney, drums and sings all at once, which fascinates me. As she is bumping beats, her voice smooths the roads of their driving melodies, to which Classic Courtney, on guitar, and Crazy Courtney, on bass, harmonize like three friends making a hand pact to have fun, be creative, keep it real, and always shine forward.
