Concert Review: The Marias Make Love Galactic At Gramercy Theatre
The Marias are on of my favorite groups rising and getting the accolades they deserve. Their sound scintillates with rhythms dropping to the floor in the same way clothes do. They make you ready to get with your partner, but, to them, a companion is not only person; it is also the universe. At Gramercy Theatre, The Marias made the audience feel like they could slow dance with the cosmos.
The Marias’ makes you feel fated to be loved. Songs such as, “I Like It,”“Basta Ya,” and “Dejate Llevar” proved that Spanish and English may be different languages, but love is always singularly understood. Passion speaks solely through emotions, and Maria emoted romance enough to tingle and twinkle acoustics through tracks “Superclean,” “Only In My Dreams,” and “Over The Moon.” It is rare that an artist can make you feel like a universe is at your palm, and it wishes to bend according to your whimsical whims. Yet, The Marias psychedelic soul truly blends the minds and heart of music.
The strange gem of The Marias’ concert is that it is, actually, quite soft and plush in sound, which makes you wonder why your adrenaline is pulsing. It is as if they have discovered that the softer you get, the higher you feel, which makes sense for love. Even their “harder,” more raucous songs such as “Out For The Night” and “I Don’t Know You” were as rough as a furry pillow being thrown at you. Yet, that is why you love The Marias. They make you feel elevated in energy through welcoming: not overpowering. This could be shown as the crowd cheered them on while they prepared the stage with plants before their show. It was a humanizing moment prior to a performance that was purely starred.
Lad by singer Maria, The Marias have everything to become a major, defining band. They could be big in both English and Spanish charts because they offer difference. I cannot compare them to anyone, especially Maria’s voice. Sure, you could find kinship with others, but her vocality feathers and flies through tracks like a dove landing on clouds. She brings a sweetness and sophisticated glamor to the physical connection of love. In perspective, it is a beautiful thing to love someone so much you want to hold their hand. The Marias’ make you hold onto their sound like you are holding onto your lover. For More Information on The Marias Click Here
