Concert Review: Tomasa Del Real Trae El Perreo Pa’ Elsewhere.
I LOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEE TOMASA DEL REAL! I love her new album, TDR. I LOVED her mind in our interview. I love her personality, and how, somehow, she turns it into music. Our creativity can be tied to our personality, and even the most beautiful, abstract art we make will, somehow, reveal a quality or desire to us. The Queen/ Creator of Chile’s Neo-Perreo scene, Tomasa Del Real’s goals are simple:
- To have no f**ks given
- dance till her booty gets abs
- breed a community/ concert that is inclusive, fun, and giddily flirtatious.
I can legitimately summarize Tomasa’s concert in these three gifs:
My reaction to it all:
I love when an artist creates a culture because their show becomes a “meeting ground” for like-minded, similarly dreaming people to unite and laugh. Outfits were abound, personalities were flared, and joy had sprung as Tomasa Del Real took a sort of “Dominatrix” role in her concert. She is unabashedly sexual and sensual with her music and her encouragement of the crowd to blast through barriers that try to define lust according to “taste” or “tastelessness,” particularly in terms of women’s looks. For her empowerment, lies in your embrace and eventual liberation of your body: whatever size, style, or desire it may have. #FEROCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The crowd LOVED Tomasa because she spits/ sings her verses like flirtatious declarations; as if suggestions are affirmations. She is bold and bursting with fiery energy, which ignited the dancing and twerking as seen in above gifs. With her new music in tow, Tomasa Del Real felt closer than ever to the superstar she is in vision and deserved appreciation. Seeing her now, compared to before, her dynamic felt settled in confidence; understanding her role as the ringleader to the true show: her crowd.

When you go to see Tomasa Del Real, you meet some lovely, crazy, happy, and fierce people/ Latinx. La comunidad vino porque La Reina estaba! I cannot reiterate enough the cultural force Tomasa is, which is why she is more than just and artist: she is a power player. Not every musician can transcend their own sound to summon a peoples with a set, poetic identity. At Elsewhere, she did. For More Information On Tomasa Del Real Click Here
