Concert Review: Travis Thompson Is My Boy At Knitting Factory

Travis Thompson has thrived and will continue to do so on the fact that he loves his fans. He treats his shows like a fan event, which might seem obvious, but it is not. I have been to shows where the last place an artist wanted to be was at their own concert. I have also been to shows where the artist through their self God, which made me confused whether I should cheer or do a rosary. At Knitting Factory, Travis Thompson reveled on the fact that people are playing to see him.

As a performer, Thompson sees his music as his way of connecting to others, which means he is as eager to vibe with his crowd as they are with him. He is a prime example, similar to Dominic Fike, that personality is what makes people come back to see you. Everyone in that show was willing to pay to see him again, even if at a higher price and bigger venue, which I am sure he will gain because he has the power of interpersonally. He draws spaces to him so that, no matter how filled with people, they always feel intimate. This helps him play into the contrasts of Reckless Endangerment.

I remember one time hearing a guy go off on how Travis Scott saved his life and how his lyrics captured his depression. My reaction was, “Travis…. Scott?” While I love his music, I didn’t have the “life-saving connection” nor could I see it despite feeling its presence in this man’s passion. As Travis THOMPSON bolted through stage with verses the felt spit-fired in the warmth of his heart but crackling in how surprised he is that it breaks, the audience saw him as more than just a talented rapper. They saw him as a best friend; the one they turn to not only when they want to have fun but are in an emotional crisis.

Similar to Mac Miller, Thompson is exceptionally talented and versed, but his magic comes from everyone, even the hardest rapper on earth, feeling like they could hang out with him and smoke a blunt on a stoop. He is not trying to impress with his music, he is sincerely trying to connect. For More Information On Travis Thompson Click Here.
